About This Item
Sampson Low, Marston & Co, London., 1948. First edition. Octavo. pp [iv], 232. ''...a love story, a murder story, and a ghost story all in one'' (from the blurb). The dedication copy: inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, ''To the Moores (see copyright page -) Paul - Sept. 1948''. The printed dedication reads, ''To Lisa and Reginald Moore in affectionate friendship''. Loosely inserted is a carbon copy of a Typed Letter Signed by the author and dated Oct 16 1948: about 300 words to Reginald Moore (''Reg'') discussing his native Hungary, some of his personal difficulties and the fact that ''stories of mine I really like never sell, only the slick stuff done for bread and butter''. A typed note at the head of the letter indicates that the original is in the BL. Reginald Moore and his wife Elizabeth Berridge were both literary figures, he being the editor of fiction anthologies and she the author novels and short stories. Some spotting to edges. Spine lettering largely faded. Some bubbling to the cloth. Very good in good, rubbed, nicked and chipped dustwrapper.
