Description: Dust jacket design by Ronald Clark. Hammond Innes journeyed to Bougainville and Papua New Guinea in 1975, just before Independence. He had always wanted to write a novel about the Pacific; not the Pacific of coral islands and blue lagoons, but the Pacific where the Western World broke in upon old cultures. This is a story of a unique ship stamp, and of the family that required it for their schooner trading in the South West Pacific. Roy Slingsby's involvement in the story of the stamp began ordinarily -- a routine contents valuation. But the contents of that house were not ordinary.
