London: Macmillan and Co.. Good. 1883. Hardcover. 28 cm. Sound and square binding in brown cloth over boards, with stamped illustration and titles. Heavy wear to the corners. Both boards are quite dirty, with what appears to be wiping marks, particularly to the lower board. Inside the endpapers are foxed and discoloured and the rear free is partially detached. The title and inside pages have some soil with one leaf having a few tiny pin prick size punctures. A selection of twenty fables from Aesop as translated by Alfred C. Caldecott and illustrated in pen and ink by his brother Randolph Caldecott. Engraving by J.D. Cooper. The book has the bookplate on the front pastedown endpaper of Francis J. Shepherd, who was an professor of Anatomy and Emeritus Dean of Medicine at McGill University, and the former president of the Canadian Medical Association. .
