About This Item

Lenox, Massachusetts: Bookstore Press, 1971. Illustrated by Maurice Sendak 8vo size red clothbound hardcover with illustrated dust jacket; 43 pages with black and white illustrations throughout. From dust jacket: "(This book) swings with graceful illogic from one misadventure to another: each revealing child-bounciness, child-reverence in the rhythm and timing which (the author) heard spoken by actual children. The drawings by Maurice Sendak capture flight, fall, re-birth - all the quick, bird-like movements of children on the run, making discovery." Ruth Krauss (1901 - 1993) was a writer and illustrator, primarily of children's books. She was married to Crocket Johnson, also a children's book writer, and collaborated with him on several books. Maurice Sendak (1928 - 2012) also a children's book author and illustrator, illustrated eight of Krauss' books, including A Hole Is to Dig which launched his career.
