About This Item

N. Y.: Harper & Brothers, 1958 HC and DJ. First Edition. 10 1/8 x 6 7/8. 43 pp. The glorious combination of Krauss and Sendak in Somebody Else's Nut Tree make this children's book a classic. Sendak's black and white drawings mirror the essence of the engaging words: a full page illus. appears across from each page of text. Krauss and Sendak have captured the realm of childhood with humour, truth and beauty. This is one of their very early collaborations. DJ is white with red sketches of a dream of a little girl. A dotted line leads the viewer on a circuitous path as the events of the adventurous dream are revealed, ending w ith the child at last awakening, and leaping into the arms of her parents. This dj illus could be considered an precursor to Where the Wild Things Are. DJ is slightly smudged; tears to corners. Price clip on flap. Sendak illus on rear of dj. Binding is red with white sketches (reverse of dj illus) Some shelf wear to edges and corners, but overall, bind is bright, tight and clean. Endpapers are wh i te, unmarked. Text consists of 17 delightful short stories and poems. Stories with titles such as: The Happy Egg; A Boy, A Woman, and a Cake; The Cinderella Tree; The Found Boy; Somebody Else's Nut Tr ee;etc. The illus. have a strong narrative feature; many with a thread or a path wending through. The text is pristine: in mint cond. DJ: Good, Binding: v. good, Text: fine.. F. HC and DJ. Good/Good.
