First of a 5-part epic poem of Plains Indians and their conquest as the white frontier moved west, and as the author says, "the era of the American Fur Trade" in particular. First published 1915; this is a 1920 printing. In this episode John G[neisensau] Neihardt (1881-1973) sings of the legendary 1823 story when frontier trapper Hugh Glass was injured and abandoned at the approach of hostile Indians by his youthful companion, Jim Bridger.
