G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1958. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Dark red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles and embossed illustrations to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. Translated from the original French by Leonard Friedman and Maxwell Singer. This is a novel of scope and Satcher on a jolt theme, which yet has a special interest in today's confused world. It is a chronicle of 3 generations of a Jewish family which flared the czarist Russian pogroms in quest of religious tolerance in the early parts of the century. Rubbing of the back strip edges and of the book corners with some softening of the back strip edges also present. Some age toning of the text block edges and lighter age toning of the pages. Some marks to the text block edges. The dustjacket has a 0.75 inch tear central to the bottom edge of the rear panel, and a 0.5 inch tear with associated creasing and chipping at the top left of the spine section. Slight rubbing of the bottom edge of the jacket around the spine. Fading of the back strip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 384 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
