About This Item

Boston: Walker, Wise, and Company, 1864. Later edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. [5], viii, [1], 10-202, [1], 2-8 (pages of publisher's advertisements), [4] pp. Blue blindstamped cloth with gold lettering and decorations on the spine. Illustrated by a frontispiece, an engraved title page, and several wood-engraved plates and in-text illustrations. A children's book in a series focused on the sights (or "spectacles") and historical merits of different cities across the world. Each landmark (in this case Cambridge, the Boston Court House, a mental hospital in Boston, among others) is accompanied by a story with a lesson in nineteenth-century "morality", meant to educate children on societal mores. A Very Good book with some foxing to the boards and a small split to the front hinge, binding holding strong.
