U.S. Secretary of State Robert Lansing's copy, with his bookplate on front endpaper and ink name and date on half title page (these were purchased from a family library in Henderson Harbor, NY, near his birthplace in Watertown, which included many other works owned by him). Rear board a bit scuffed, hinges loosening, front and end matter lightly foxed, pencil marginalia with notes thereto on rear endpaper. 1876 Hard Cover. xii, 530, 32 pp. Publisher catalog bound in following text. Green cloth, gilt titles, black and gilt decorations. Color frontispiece showing an ancient chess match, 140 engravings from ancient manuscripts throughout text. Includes extensive index.
