LONDON: Henry Frowde / Oxford University Press, 1897 UNCOMMON 1st ed.1897.Paper covered boards with blue cloth quarter binding, 170x115mm approx. vi + 89 nos. pp. R.Barrett- Browning's poem with notes + notes on lectures and appendices i) Similes in the Poem ii) Household words and axioms iii) Hints on the metre. The copy offered for sale has the initials of the previous owner JMCMM and in the same hand "recommended to me by Mrs Browning 1898" in ink to the ffep and an impressed address label affixed to the front past down " Morison House" Hetland Ruthwell. The book was seemingly previously owned by the Rev John Morrison of that address. The property is now an hotel. Good (Book - loss to cloth at head and tail of spine, paper covers tanned, significant offset browning to free end papers and 20mm split to gutter due to loss of cloth at tail of spine.No other notable defects , Two Shillings).
