About This Item

New York: The Century Company. Good with no dust jacket. 1898. Hardcover. Six months of the famed magazine bound together, from May 1898 to October 1898. --- Each issue of St. Nicholas includes stories, often by well-known authors, as well as dozens of charming illustrations, photos, riddles, poems, letters, and non-fiction articles written for young people. These issues include "The Treasure at the End of the Rainbow," a story by A. E. Bonser, illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Also with offerings by J. M. Ellicott, U.S.N., Virginia Woodward Cloud, Charles B. Howard, Ada Sewall and many others; "conducted" (edited) by noted author Mary Mapes Dodge. This delightful collection of magazines provides an insight into the way of life in the US early in the latter half of the 19th Century. --- Monthly issues of the magazine bound into this volume, without their original monthly covers/wraps. In bevel-edged maroon cloth with titling and decorations in black and gilt. --- A generally well-preserved copy, with mostly intact textblock (though a few leaves at mid-book have loosened and tears to some leaves). Hinges are good, but with chafing to cover extremities. (NOTE: Due to the weight of this item, extra shipping charges may be requested for shipments beyond the U.S.) ; Tall Octavo - 9 to 10 in. tall; viii, 531-1056 pages .
