About This Item

Creative World Inc.. Near Fine Vinyl Record Set/Very Good Original Box. 33 1/3 RPM LP Record. This wonderful set presents the story of the STAN KENTON Orchestra through the years - both with the band's music and spoken word recordings of STAN KENTON. It includes 4 Vinyl LP records plus a 44 page large booklet (12" x 12") which is profusely illustrated with photos and drawings, with text by Bud Freeman. It was released in the early 1970s by Kenton's own label Creative World Inc. (a reissue of the original 1955 set on the Capitol Records label). Duophonic ST-1030. Some of the musicians featured with the band over the years include ART PEPPER, CHICO ALVAREZ, SHELLY MANNE, LAURINDO ALMEIDA, SHORTY ROGERS, MAYNARD FERGUSON, BUD SHANK, LEE KONITZ, CONTE CANDOLI, ZOOT SIMS, STAN GETZ, vocalists JUNE CHRISTY and ANITA O'DAY, and arranger PETE RUGOLO. This box set represents the combined efforts of many researchers, engineers, photographers and musicians. The narrative story is written by music writer BUD FREEMAN. The voluminous musical history of the KENTON organization was originally compiled on disc and tape from a large variety of sources, carefully selected to be most representative of previously unreleased material. Though the recorded quality of a few of the earlier selections does not meet modern high fidelity standards, the performances do reveal the driving excitement that launched a great new band on its way. Includes: 4 near fine vinyl records, in original outer box, with an excellent condition 44 page illustrated booklet. .
