Preface by author, list of illustrations, glossary, further reading and index. Sky blue coloured end pages. The text is illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs and reproductions of artworks, as well as line diagrams. Black coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Top edge tinted a rather vivid crimson. Photographic dustwrapper with blue and white coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. The author sets out to show that astronomy has always been relevant to practical matters, and the results are important, and familiar to us all. He begins with the calendar. He looks at navigation of both ships and aircraft and then of spaceships, and goes on to consider the contributions astronomy has made to science. The author was at Narrabri Observatory in New South Wales which he ran for 15 years. Minor rubbing of the book corners and back strip edges. Some rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels.
