About This Item

I had a collection of Stephen's material and decided to break down in groups. This group Has a signature with the book: Johnny Pye and the Fool-Killer numbered 524 of 750 copies and it is signed by the Artist Charles Child and Stephen Vincent Benet. Both signatures are bold and dark considering the book is from 1938. Countryman Press, 78 numbered pages. It is very tight and square, but outside color of the cloth is sunned to various degrees. The spine is barely readable looks like it was left in the sun on different days. But the signature is the vaule/worth.

Most of his work is in the Two Volume set Farrar & Rhinehart, 1942, The Selected Works of Stephen Vincent Benet, Volume One is Poetry up to 1941. It begins with John Brown's Body in full(I believe) Young Adventure and so on. And finishes with Listen to the People. Volume Two: Prose from his other books up to 1942, Both copies has the signature of previous owner inside the front cover and 1st leaf at the top.

Maybe a unstated 1st because the F&R shield is present in Volume 2 copyright page, VG+ or better and housed in a slipcase Good or better Slipcase, seems unread and square and has protected the books very well except for a hint of spine sunning of the books. A little bit of glue could add years to the slipcase.

The book WESTERN STAR, 1943 released after his death and became his 2nd Pulitzer Prize Winner for Poetry. This book has been released by different companies. This one is Farrar & Rinehart but no price on DJ, 181 pages. Dustjacket is Good because of small tears and soiled but it has one. No writing/marks, it is NF just in case I missed something.

Last book is THE LAST CIRCLE, Short Stories and Poems by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET 1946, Farrar , Straus the DJ also promises these to be 1st published in book form. Black cloth with goldish letteringl. Unknown Printing but not book club, price intact but brown soiling to the spine, and a couple of chips head and foot spine. still Good+ DJ and book is unread and very square but pencil ghost 1st leaf, otherwise better than VG+ book. As pictured it has a Pinkish repurposed hand bag to help protect from light and greasy hands. Of course it is nice enough to reuse as a purse.

Of course you could save money and use my idea and make your own collection, that is OK with me too.

About Pulitzer Prize Books.com

I am a private collector, mainly Pulitzer Prize winners, but I inherited 1000's of hardcovers and looking to sell them off. I will be relocating in the near future, and need to lighten the load.
