About This Item

New York: E. P. Dutton. Good with no dust jacket. 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. An interesting biography of a man whose imprint is on much of Michigan's early political history. Born in Virginia in 1811, he was appointed by Andrew Jackson to be Territorial Governor of Michigan in 1835 at the young age of 24 and helped guide Michigan to statehood in 1837. He was then elected to be Michigan's first Governor, serving until 1840. He died in Detroit of pneumonia only three years later. Contains Genealogical Notes, Bibliography and an Index in the rear. The blue cloth spine is sunned, and there is a light scratch to the rear cover, else a generally good, tight and clean copy with a previous owner bookplate on front free end paper. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 447 pages .
