When these were first published in China in 1987, they were immediately condemned by the authorities, and all writings by Ma Jian have been banned. Includes an afterword by the author, describing how these came to be written. Translated from the Chinese by Flora Drew. 90 pp.

Synopsis

MA JIAN left Beijing for Hong Kong in 1987, shortly before his books were banned in China. After the hand-over of Hong Kong he moved to Germany and then London, where he now lives. His acclaimed book Red Dust won the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award 2002.
