Early half brown calf & marbled boards and endpapers, all edges marbled, red and black leather spine labels; lightly worn/rubbed, very good condition, light foxing to endpapers, text block lightly toned at edges. Facsimile manuscript plate. Ex-libris Ernest Alers Hankey. Savonarola (1452-1498) was a Dominican friar who through word and deed riled again the secular art and culture of Florence; later, after defiying Pope Alexander VI's order not to preach, he was excommunicated. He was later imprisoned, condemned, hanged, and burned with two other friars by Church and civil authorities. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1318 pages .
