About This Item

St. Paul, MN: Zenith Press, 2005. Revised and Updated Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. 288 pages. Illustrations (many in color). Production Close-Ups. Index. Format is approximately 11.25 inches by 11.25 inches. DJ has slight wear and soiling. Bill Yenne is the author of more than three dozen non-fiction books, as well as ten novels. His work has been selected for Chief of Staff of the Air Force Reading List, and he is the recipient of the Air Force Association's Gill Robb Wilson Award for the "most outstanding contribution in the field of arts and letters [as an] author whose works have shaped how thousands of Americans understand and appreciate airpower." Mr. Yenne has contributed to encyclopedias of both world wars, and has appeared in documentaries airing on the History Channel, the National Geographic Channel, C-SPAN, ARD German Television, and NHK Japanese Television. His on-air credits also include his appearance on Mystery Files: Sitting Bull on the Smithsonian Channel, which was filmed at the Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana. Among his memorable appearances on C-SPAN was a recent discussion of his book Operation Long Jump: Stalin, Roosevelt, Churchill and the Greatest Assassination Plot in History. In the early years of the twentieth century, William Edward Boeing summed up his new company's mission: "To let no new improvement in flying and flying equipment pass us by." And sure enough, in the century since, nothing and no one has outflown Boeing. The Story of the Boeing Company, the tale of the plane-maker to the world, unfolds on a fittingly grand scale in this book that is at once the history of one company and the story of an industry. Lavishly illustrated, this book showcases historic aircraft that made the company's name—the B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-29 Stratofortress of World War II, and the B-52 Superfortress that still soldiers on over 50 years after its debut to the 707 jetliner that revolutionized commercial flight and the mammoth 747. Fully updated, it includes the 787 Dreamliner, Airborne Laser Testbed (ALTB), and EA-18G Airborne Electronic Attack Aircraft.
