About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1905. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 8vo. [4], vi-xviii, [3], 4-328, [4] pp. Tan publisher's cloth with red, black, and gold decorations on the front board, red and black decorations and gold lettering on the spine. Grey endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with several full-page and in-text illustrations, and with a few intricate head and tailpieces. Text and illustrations done by Howard Pyle. Pyle began as a children's book illustrator, and established new standards in American book-making with his designs, with William Morris among one of his numerous fans. Pyle's striking illustrations illuminate these Arthurian tales, a classic example of his work. Minor darkening to the boards and a faint dampstain on the bottom textblock.
