About This Item

London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1867. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 7" by 4.5". Not Stated. A very smart, first edition copy of this collection of poetry by Jean Ingelow, in decorative green cloth binding. Containing various poetic works of English poet Jean Ingelow, including 'The Dreams That Came True', 'Laurance', 'A Story of Doom', 'Winstanley', and more. Jean Ingelow (1820-1897) was an English poet and novelist, and her first collection of poems was published in 1850. Among her most famous poems include 'The High Tide on the Coast of Lincolnshire, 1571', 'Sailing beyond Seas', and 'Divided'. She also wrote many stories and works for children. This book contains the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst, an avid collector of naval history and of eighteenth-century literature. During his lifetime, he was a collector of antiquarian books. He also inherited and improved a successful group of retail pharmacies, John Hayhurst & Son, based in Nelson, Lancashire. In decorative green cloth binding. Externally, lovely, with slight bumping to the head and tail of spine. Bookplate of previous owner to the front pastedown. Internally, binding is slightly tender but firm. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
