First written by Helen Bannerman in 1899, it is the story of Sambo, a young boy in India, whose mother gives him a beautiful new set of clothes which four tigers take from him. Sambo then tricks the tigers into chasing each other around a tree until they turn into butter which his mother uses to make pancakes for breakfast. Very fine condition; red-cloth hardcover, no dust jacket; 4 1/2" x 5 1/2"; "Alyce" written in pen on inside front cover; bottom of page edges shows red stain from dye leak during printing.
