Chicago. Chicago: M. A. Donohue & Company. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1919. Hardcover. Brief inscription to former owner written inside front cover. On second free endpage the book is identified as being in the Peter Rabbit series, including Peter Rabbit, The Little Small Red Hen, Cinderella, Three Little Pigs, Chicken Little, The Selfish Fox, and The Three Bears. No publication date, only a copyright date of 1919. Endpages have a red ine drawing of a high-stepping Sambo with his umbrella. Orange/brown cloth cover, a little rubbed at extremities. Cover has an illustration of Sambo holding a green umbrella pasted on. Paste-on is brightly colored, slightly rubbed, Pages are yellowed but clean and unmarked. Includes 24 full-page full-color illustrations that are all present, bright and colorful. The illustrator is not named. There are three or four short tears on pages. Book is tight and solid with sewn binding, hinges are not cracked. A beautiful copy of an early edition of Little Black Sambo that has not been mauled by generations of small children. . 12mo - 7" to 7½" tall. 50 pages. B6 .
