About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1905 Book. Illus. by Uncredited Frontospiece. Good to Very Good. Full Leather on Flexible Board. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Original dark green full leather on flexible board. A story in praise of wild animals. However, either the child will have to be an advanced reader or the teacher an advanced performer in order to make sense of the mother rabbit's Devon accent. Troubling , too, is the snobbery of the mother red-deer, who teaches her fawn that he is superior to the trout, with whom he must never associate. Perhaps the best use of the book is as a Social Studies assignment in Junior High or High School. Rear hinge is cracked full-length. 212 pp..
