About This Item

Hardback. University of Nebraska Press. USA. 1990. 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' by Robert Louis Stevenson. This book is a first edition in the Nebraksa University Press format. Small hardback with dustjacket. There is a forward by Joyce Carol Oates and striking wood engravings by award winning artist Barry Moser. The dustjacket is an attractive dark lilac in colour and is unclipped. There is a tiny nick to the front at the bottom. There is a little rub to the top of the spine and around the edges, A little sun fading to spine. The boards are very smart in black with silver titles to the spine. The contents are clean and bright. Slight dustiness to top of text block. Whilst the dj does bear some rubbing, the book looks little read. The author's book has become a real classic of Gothic fiction, exploring themes of the questionable search in science for knowledge. Not exlib and packed and sent with care.

Synopsis

Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a novella written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the misanthropic Mr Hyde. The work is known for its vivid portrayal of a split personality, split in the sense that within the same person there is both an apparently good and an evil personality each being quite distinct from the other.
