About This Item
Philadelphia: Samuel F. Bradford, et al., 1806. First American edition, published the same year as the London edition, but unfortunately without the plates. A lawyer by training, Sir John Carr began to travel for health reasons. He was one of the earlier writers of travel literature and produced a number of accounts of his journeys in various European countries. One folding plate on the state of the weather in Dublin (doesn't seem to have changed much). Early, contemporaneous(?) calf with gilt-lettered red-leather spine label and gilt spine rules. A good only copy with spine and edges worn but binding wholly intact. Though internally very good with no foxing and just one stain to the front endpaper and tiny nick to base of first few leaves.
