The publisher's blurb reads: ''No one could keep the champion trotter, David Hal, in as good a mod before a great race as Roscoe. Roscoe had spent the night before each race with the horse and he had won them all. When the time came for the Spring Handicap, Roscoe was not allowed to remain in the stall, and so began the romantic and varied life of the boy and the horse away from the racetrack.
