Octavo, 272pp. Maroon cloth, title on label affixed to spine. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. Light sunning to spine, touch of wear to label on spine. In the publisher's maroon slipcase, all seams worn, some loss along edges, stable condition. From a limited edition of 515 copies, this being number 180, signed by the author. William Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) was an English writer with a myriad of plays and novels published by the start of his popular success in 1914. He drove ambulances in World War I as a member of the British Red Cross, and in his spare time, he wrote his best-known piece, Of Human Bondage (1915).
