First English Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 213 pp; 18 plates, textual notes. Black cloth with gilt spine titles, reading ribbon. A couple of small and light marks to margins of title page and otherwise volume is in fine condition with bright pages; binding is tight and square. Dustjacket is in very good condition with has several insect holes. A very rare edition in collectible condition. First published in 1840 as Études sur les Glaciers. Louis Agassiz (1807-1873), was a Swiss-born American biologist and geologist who is recognized as a scholar of Earth's natural history.
