Association copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in the year of publication, "Alfred H. Lloyd From John Dewey Oct. 12, 1903." Also, Dewey has signed Lloyd's name on the half-title page. Alfred H. Lloyd was a philosopher and close friend of Dewey's. In the preface to this work, Dewey thanks Lloyd for his inspiration. Dewey himself recruited Lloyd the University of Michigan's philosophy department, where Lloyd remained thereafter. In very good condition. An excellent association. Studies in Logical Theory, was composed and edited by American philosopher, psychologist and educational reformer John Dewey, and was originally published in 1903. This work presents the collection of eleven studies of work on the subject of logical theory from the Department of Philosophy of the University of Chicago in the early days of its inception. Dewey is one of the primary figures associated with the philosophy of pragmatism and is considered one of the fathers of functional psychology. A Review of General Psychology survey, published in 2002, ranked Dewey as the 93rd most cited psychologist of the 20th century. A well-known public intellectual, he was also a major voice of progressive education and liberalism. Although Dewey is known best for his publications about education, he also wrote about many other topics, including epistemology, metaphysics, aesthetics, art, logic, social theory, and ethics. He was a major educational reformer for the 20th century.
