Farrell (1904-1979) was a prolific American novelist, short story writer, and poet best known for his blue-collar, Irish-Catholic Depression-era stories set in Chicago. Farrell's best known works are a trilogy about the tough, gritty, initially promising though progressively tragic life (often autobiographical) of impoverished young, Irish-Catholic Studs Lonigan: Young Lonigan (1931), The Young Manhood of Studs Lonigan (1934), and Judgment Day (1935). The series was made into a film in 1960 and tv series in 1979.<br /> <br /> Clean, solid, tight, First Edition of the ML Giant with the SCARCE complete pictorial dust jacket (slight wear along its spine's upper dj section and bottom edge). <br /> <br /> Toledano's Guide indicates that the dust jacket inside number "262" was used in 1938-39; while the dust jacket rear panel design was used between 1933 and 1940; ergo a likely First Editioin appearing pre-World War II.
