Albany: Printed by Packard & Van Benthuysen, 1823. Hardcover. xvi, 320p., 7.25 x 4.75 inches; Bound in leather boards, rubbed and edgeworn. Textblock toned with spotting. Bookseller's label on rear pastedown: "Henry Miller, Bookseller and Binder, 82 Nassau St., N.Y.". Former owner's blue book label on verso of front flyleaf: "A.A. Cohen." Signed in three places (front pastedown, front flyleaf, and title page by Michael Floy (one of these is dated 1823). Pencil doodles of flowers and a silhouette on front flyleaves. A history of the Shakers, with sections on conduct, principles of faith, and their beliefs around the second coming. The Michael Floy who signed this book is almost certainly Michael Floy Jr., the son of a successful businessman and horticulturist in New York city. Floy Jr. was heir apparent to his father's holdings until his sudden death in 1837.
