About This Item
Boston: The Page Company, 1915. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Presentation copy, inscribed and dated in the year of publication by the author on the front flyleaf. In this romantic relic of bygone California, Murphy extols the wealth of heritage and beauty in a variety of Golden State locales, all of which are newly accessible by motor vehicle. 376 p. with 16 color reproductions of paintings and 40 duogravures by California artists, including Thomas Moran, George Howell Gay, Percy Gray, and other California Plein Air painters, as well as a folding map. Octavo. Original gray cloth trade binding, with elegant Art Nouveau designs stamped in gilt, green, and orange. The spine is a touch faded, with just a hint of wear to the corners and tips. A lovely example of this classic of California booster literature.
