A fascinating early eighteenth-century work on the cathedral of Landaff, containing descriptions of the monuments, bishops, burial places, epitaphs, and more. A very scarce historical account. Including two folding plates, collated and complete. Written by Browne Willis (1682-1760) a British antiquary and politician. He was elected to the House of Commons for Buckingham in 1705. Containing an ink signature of a previous owner to the front free-endpaper: 'Elizabeth Lewis'. This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII.ESTC Reference T93601. In full calf binding. Externally, very smart, with some light rubbing to the spine and bumping to the extremities. A small amount of shelf wear to the boards and some indents to the head of the rear board. Previous owner's ink signature to the front free-endpaper. Internally, front hinge slightly tender but firm. Book is firmly bound. Pages are age-toned, as is common with paper from this time period, and contain the occasional spot. Very Good
