About This Item

London: Printed for W. Innys and J. Richardson; J. And P. Knapton et al, 1754. The sixth edition, Two hefty volumes, 1754 and 1755. Includes 132 plates, maps and plans, with 70 in the first volume (30 folding) and 62 in the second volume (42 folding). Massive set, the books nearly 17 inches tall, rebound late 20th century (likely 1980s), three quarter dark brown thin leather over lighter brown cloth, dual spine labels in tan and black, raised spine bands bordered in gilt with gilt compartment decorations, all edges tinted yellow, renewed marbled endpapers, title pages in red and black, a few vignette engravings in the text. Volume I: xx, [8], 1-758 plus plates; Volume II: [3], 4-838, [14]. Externally very good with a very minor non-structural surface crack to the top 4 inches of the front joint of volume I, hinges good, text blocks sound. Some professional repairs, likely done when rebound, with repaired fold to large folding frontis plate in first volume, minor repairs to first title page, repairs to final page in first volume, and just a very few other minor repairs, mainly to margins. Some light foxing in the first volume, light to moderate foxing in the second, a few very neatly handwritten notes in the index, no names or bookplates.. Hard Cover. Very Good. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall.
