Description: Jacket design by Robert Ritter. The extra-wide dust jacket flaps feature character illustrations by B K Prins. The publisher's blurb reads: ''God help the survivors! With these grim words all attempts to rescue the missing whaling ship cease. Slowly the relentless ice begins to crush the life from the trapped ship. Soon the survivors will be alone on the great Antarctic ice cap -- facing not only cold and starvation but a ruthless killer in their midst.'' This was published in the UK as The White South (after being published serially as Calling the Southern Cross), and was the basis for the 1954 film Hell Below Zero starring Alan Ladd, Joan Tetzel, Basil Sydney, and Stanley Baker.
