First US edition, first printing. 362pp. In brown cloth-covered boards with gilt titles in panels front and spine. Top edge sprayed blue, all other edges deckled. Illustrated endpapers and occasional page decorations. 12mo. Boards rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, heavily Boards rubbed at edges, heavily so at corners and spine ends, cloth generally worn, fraying at spine tips and faded over spine. Hinges cracked, rear hinge with a clumsy, old tape repair. Sheila Kaye-Smith was a popular English novelist, known for her many novels set in borderland country between Sussex and Kent.
