One of 132 copies printed at the Taller Martín Pescador. Sewn on vellum strips laced into stiff paper wraps finely printed by hand by Juan Pascoe.


This is the story of the Tlaxcalan child martyrs, originally written by Fray Toribio Motolina in the 16th century in Spanish and later translated by Fray Juan Bautista into Nahuatl om 1601, and later translated back into Spanish, of which, according to the introductory notice, no copy is known today.


The Tlaxcala Martyrs were three young boys who converted to Catholicism in the early days of the Spanish colonization. One, Cristóbal, was beaten and burned to death by his father in 1527. The other two, Antonio and Juan, were clubbed to death and their bodies thrown over a cliff in 1529.
