"Although it contains no new discoveries, this superb atlas is certainly one of the most elegant works of the nineteenth century. The 101 colored lithographs were drawn by the author and his brother, William Home Lizars (1788-1859), from the author's dissections. Lizars was a pupil of John Bell and served as a naval surgeon before becoming professor of surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh." [Note: The first 103 plates are numbered 1 through 101, but there are two plates numbered 9 and two plates numbered 32]. Heirs to Hippocrates 1436. Cushing L313; Waller 5950; Wellcome III, p. 531.
