About This Item
(London: Arthur H. Stockwell: no date) Red cloth lettered in gilt (that is, hard covers) pp. 157. With Nine Illustrations by the Author. An Australian novel told by a young war widow who moves to the backblocks to farm turkeys, possibly in the Adelaide Hills. She is not the first Australian heroine to poultry farm, a notable example being Phoebe in Kirkhams Find by Mary Gaunt, but the flavour of the narrative is more akin to Canadian novelist L.M. Montgomery with its small community interests, here overshadowed by the Great War, and in its display of a profound love for the natural environment. Not recorded in Depasquale. An ownership inscription dated April 1922. Spine sunned; marks to rear board; edges foxed; a very good copy.
