About This Item

Presumably complimentary first edition, having the author's business card attached with original paperclip to ffep. 24 p. ; ill.; 31 cm. Includes Bibliography. Handsome brown sort of burlap cloth hardcover with faux-leather spine and debossed title, shows minor shelfwear for its age. The textblock is comprised of thick paper with deckled bottom edge, it is somewhat aged in colour but that adds to its charm and the pages remain generally crisp and clean. The ffrep and title have some rust stains from the paperclip which holds the author's business card to the ffep. From the introduction: History moves a long way in four hundred years, but just as Cartier, Champlain, and other sturdy explorers of those earlier days found in Tadoussac a happy refuge for their storm-tossed ships, so the modern seeker of peace and tranquillity turns to Tadoussac for the summer attractions and recreations which have made this historic Canadian settlement a kingdom of delight. So far as I have been able to ascertain this if the first serious attempt at a comprehensive history of Tadoussac. The materials which record all that we know are widely scattered and are principally the narratives of explorers and travellers, or such records of missionary enterprise as the many volumes of the Jesuit Relations. It is a pleasure to write a word of introduction to this delightful narrative which, for the first time, brings together in a single book the many stirring incidents in Tadoussac's long and colourful history.
