About This Item

This is an antique collection of boxing stories, "Taking the Count - Prize Ring Stories" by Charles E. Van Loan. 1915 1st edition; George H. Doran Company; New York. With a Foreword by Irvin S. Cobb. There are 11 stories in all - please see the photos for the complete list. From the Foreword: "...(Van Loan) did not unduly burden his tales with character sketches nor yet make them staccato with dialogue. For descriptions of scenes of action he had a talent which was more than a talent; it was a genius. Read here any one of his accounts of ring battles and you are bound to tingle to the vividness of the bold, accurate drawing of the fight, even as, subconsciously, you marvel at the versatility of the narrator."

Condition:
Clean covers; light soiling to the spine. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the text pages are lightly age-toned and clean with no notable issues found. Tanning to the end papers. There is a bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. The rear end paper has a couple small, light stains at the right edge. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
