1904. London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1904. Original light brown boards with cover pictorial onlay. First Edition of the author's fourth book, following PETER RABBIT, SQUIRREL NUTKIN and THE TAILOR OF GLOUCESTER. Here, Peter Rabbit returns with his cousin Benjamin to Mr. McGregor's garden -- to retrieve the clothes he left there when in the first book he fled in haste. This copy has the misspelling "muffatees" on page 15, identifying it as being from either the first or the second printing (undiscernible from each other); the third printing has the error corrected, but is also dated 1905. The paper-covered boards of this copy are light brown; grey was also used, without priority, and there were also copies in decorated cloth priced sixpence higher. Condition is very good -- some wear along the outer joints, a short edge-tear in the final leaf of text, and occasional faint pencil-marks and little fingerprints. Linder p. 424; Quinby 6.
