Twenty-four useful prose explications of the background to several famous and less well known poems created by America's greatest 19th century poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 - 1882). The stories deal with such gems as "Evangeline," "Pandora," "The Courtship of Miles Standish," "The Wreck of the Hesperus," and a score of others... though not one for lengthy "Paul Revere's Ride."<br /> <br /> Isaac "Ike" Morgan (1871 - 1913) was a well-known newspaper illustrator for several big newspapers in Chicago and New York.<br /> <br /> UNCOMMON: Tight, clean copy. Light wear to covers. Color plate on front cover has some wear. The handsome B&W illustrations consist of plates with engravings and in-text images from each tale. Light uniform age-toning. No foxing. No marks by previous owners.
