About This Item

Madras, India Sri Ramakrishna Math, 1974. Paperback Fifth Edition (1974). First published in 1943. Very Good+ in Very Near Fine DJ: shows only the most minute indications of use: just a hint of toning to the text pages; sparse foxing at the bottom of the rear board; else flawless; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Very close to 'As New'. The DJ shows a hint of wear to the extremities and is mylar- protected. Very close to "As New". NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. (7.1 x 5.1 x 0.8 inches). xlvii, 272 pages. Language: English. Weight: 11.4 ounces. Fifth Edition (1974). First published in 1943. Hardback with DJ. Sri Ramakrishna (1836- 1886), the famous saint, mystic of India, was an Indian Hindu mystic, saint, and religious leader in 19th century Bengal. Sri Ramakrishna experienced spiritual ecstasies from a young age, and was influenced by several religious traditions, including devotion toward the Goddess Kali, Tantra, Bhakti and Advaita Vedanta. As a priest at the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, his mystical temperament and ecstasies gradually gained him widespread acknowledgement, attracting to him various spiritual teachers, social leaders, and lay followers; he eventually taught disciples, who would later form the monastic Ramakrishna Order. He was generally revered by Bengali elites and within religious circles, which led his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda to found the Ramakrishna Math, which provides spiritual training for monastics and householder devotees.
