About This Item
Handsome, antique copy of "TALES FROM SHAKESPEARE" by Charles and Mary Lamb. Circa 1910's (there is no date of publication stated); Brentanos; New York. Volume I (of a two-volume set). Nicely bound with gilt decorations and lettering on the front cover and spine, a frontispiece engraving of Charles Lamb, nine full-page illustrations (each with a descriptive tissue guard), and gilt top page edges. The following tales are included: The Tempest; A Midsummer Night's Dream; The Winter's Tale; Much Ado About Nothing; As You Like It; The Two Gentlemen of Verona; The Merchant of Venice; Cymbeline; King Lear.
Condition:
Some light scuffing to the cloth along the bottom edges of the covers; sharp corners; bright gilt on the front cover and spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior with only some occasional mild foxing, and a random smudge/stain here and there; no writing found. There are a few pages that appear to have been attached along the outer edge and, in the process of separating them, small tears resulted. There is a shallow bug/worm hole near the center of the outer edge of pages 67-90. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
