White paper over boards with black cover title and color illustration on front cover within decorative border; back cover blank. Dust jacket reproduces front cover; back section has publisher's advertisement for a new edition of Heinrich Hoffmann's Der Struwwelpeter. Publisher's advertisements on both jacket flaps. Former owner's name on front free endpaper. Das Tapfere Schneiderlein, or The Valiant Little Tailor, is a fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm. Versions of it have appeared in Andrew Lang's The Blue Fairy Book and other English-language collections of fairy tales. The illustrator, Fritz Kredel (1900-1973), was a German artist who fled Germany in 1938, before this book was published. After coming to the United States, he taught at Cooper Union and continued to illustrate books, with both German and English texts, including a six volume set of Hans Christian Andersen for the Limited Editions Club. Book is in Very Good+ Condition: minor soiling along fore-edge of several pages; otherwise, clean and tight. Dust jacket is in Good+ Condition: soiled; ends of spine chipped; 1-cm. tear from upper edge of front section; complete.
