About This Item

NY: The Walter Scott Publishing Co., 1907. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. First edition of this translation of Gogol's 1835 novel about Cossack warriors living on the Ukrainian Steppe. Translated by B.C. Baskerville. Octavo, 7.5 x 5.25 in.; xii, 295pp. Red publisher's cloth, blind stamped on front board, with brownish-black titles stamped on spine; lacking a jacket. Water exposure has caused some dye bleed to the base of the spine and the bottom corners of front and rear panels. Mild non-penetrating damp stains to the textblock base and bottom fore-edge, which also shows a small portion of pinkish dye bleed. Else a strong very good or better, snugly bound and internally clean and unmarked.
