Fifth impression. *First published in 1948, this new impression adds a substantial epilogue, and three pages of corrections and notes. The epilogue is Carter's 1969 presidential address to the Bibliographical Society, 'in which Mr. Carter cast a reflective and not invariably respectful eye on the trends, conditions and personalities of the intervening twenty years' [wrapper blurb].
