With 3 pages of publisher's titles (most notably Abbott's first book, 'The Young Christian', in a 'new and cheap edition', with 8 excerpts of newspaper reviews) at rear. In original light brown cloth, with light orange paper spine label, printed black, plain endpapers, foredges untrimmed; in supplied modern clear mylar protective jacket. Rare in any condition. Abbott (1803-79), Maine-born and Massachusetts-based Congregational clergyman, educator and children's author; famous for the 'Rollo' series of books (some co-authored with his younger brother John Stevens Cabot Abbott).1 Engraved Illustration / Plate (half-title).
