Late work by Karel Teige, who also edited this series (Orloj: mezinárodní knihovna theorie umění), of which this is volume 1. The book contains reprints of 27 articles by the painter and art critic written between 1909 and 1914, discussing stylistic trends of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. With extensive notes, some text illustrations, and sixteen plates, including works by Kubišta, but also other Czech artists and foreign painters such as Léger. Bohmuil Kubišta (1884-1918) successively embraced a myriad of styles, including Impressionism, Expressionism ,and Futurism. He was one of the first painters in the former Czechoslovakia to work in the Cubist and Expressionist styles. KVK and OCLC show five copies in North America.
